Veneers
Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

Close-up of woman smiling with porcelain veneers from Palani Center for Dental Implants Your teeth are important. They perform a wide variety of tasks every single day, many of which you may not even realize. The teeth help you to bite and chew food, initiating digestion. They control the flow of air when you speak, making good communication possible. They also provide you with a beautiful, confident smile. If your teeth, particularly the ones at the front of your mouth, are affected by even the most minor imperfections, the quality of your smile is diminished, as is your confidence. At Palani Center for Dental Implants, we can restore the appearance of your smile, giving you back your confidence, with veneers.

What are Veneers?

Veneers are a thin cosmetic dental restoration that looks almost like shells. These restorations are designed to sit over the front portion of your visible teeth, mimicking the natural tooth, and covering over a myriad of minor dental imperfections. Typically, veneers can be made from either composite resin or porcelain. Both options mimic the natural tooth. While composite resin is cheaper, is not exactly the strongest material. Porcelain, on the other hand, is much stronger. It also more closely resembles the enamel of the natural tooth, mimicking its color and light reflection properties.

At Palani Center for Dental Implants, we specialize in a type of veneer known as Lumineers.

Why Get Veneers?

Veneers can be used to correct a wide variety of different dental issues, including:
•  Small chips and cracks in the teeth that only affect the outer layer of the teeth. Damage to inner layers can lead to infections and require bigger treatments.
•  Small gaps between your teeth.
•  Minor overlapping in visible teeth that do not affect the health of your mouth.
•  Cavities that have been filled.
•  Teeth that are smaller than the rest, or oddly shaped.
•  Discoloration that does not respond even to professional whitening treatments.

Placing Your Veneers

Veneers take two visits to place. At your first visit, we do a thorough exam to assess the condition of your teeth and make sure that veneers are the right option for your situation. When ready to begin, we administer a local anesthetic, which will help to ensure that you feel no discomfort. Next, we remove a small amount of enamel from each affected tooth. This step is important for ensuring that the veneers look completely natural and that they blend in seamlessly with the rest of your smile. Finally, we take an impression of your mouth, which is then used to design and create your custom veneers. It may take as long as two weeks for the veneers to be ready, and you will return for your second visit. We check the veneers for fit and make sure that the color blends in with your natural teeth. If everything looks good, we can then set them in place. This process involves using an acid etch to create a rough texture on the surface of your teeth, which aids in better bonding. After the acid is washed off and your teeth cleaned and dried, we then securely cement your veneers in place.

With veneers, minor imperfections in your teeth can be completely covered up. Moreover, with their natural appearance, no one will ever know that they are there. For more information, and to find out if veneers are right for you, call Palani Center for Dental Implants today at (310) 894-8337.
