Who is a Candidate for All-on-4?

Woman smiling after All on 4 implants from Palani Center for Dental Implants in Rancho Palos Verdes, CAIf you are missing all or most of your teeth, you may be wondering what to do next. At Palani Center for Dental Implants, we specialize in dental implants. A dental implant is a rod or screw, typically made from titanium, that serves as the root component of a prosthesis. Dental implants can be used to support a wide variety of restorations, including fixed bridges for full mouth reconstruction. One reconstruction method, known as All-on-4, has revolutionized the way we view full mouth restorations.

What is All-on-4?

All-on-4 is a fixed full-arch bridge that uses four titanium implants to support the appliance. Other fixed bridges typically require six or more implants! Giri Palani, DDS, FICOI places the four implants into the jaw at a specific angle to maximum support. Once the implants are in place, we will attach four abutments, or support structures, that link the implants to an arch of natural-looking prosthetic teeth.

All-on-4

•  Is a full set of permanent teeth that can be cared for like natural teeth
•  Does not require sticky or messy adhesives
•  Allows you to experience all of your favorite foods, hot and cold
•  Is supported by your jaw, and does not press down on your gums
•  Does not have to be taken out to be cleaned
•  Prevents bone deterioration
•  Restores your facial features and smile
•  Is discrete. No one will know you have implants, unless you tell them

Like any oral surgery, you will need time to heal. Your bone and the implants must fuse together through the process of osseointegration, which will take several months. However, you will not leave the surgery without a set of teeth. Giri Palani, DDS, FICOI will fabricate a temporary restoration for you to use during the healing period. Once you have fully healed, we can proceed with the rest of the All-on-4 process.

Implants and Osseointegration

To receive dental implants, you must have a sufficient amount of bone in the jaw. The success of All-on-4 is largely the result of osseointegration. If your bone is too thin or too soft, the implants are likely to fail. Luckily, this can be remedied with a bone graft procedure.

Ideal Candidate for All-on-4

To determine if you are a suitable candidate for All-on-4, Giri Palani, DDS, FICOI will perform a comprehensive exam. At your consultation, we will take a variety of X-rays, using 3D CBCT technology to determine the jaw density and quantity. The goal is to discern if you have the proper bone structure and bite alignment to support All-on-4. We may have to take into account certain risk factors, such as pre-existing health conditions and lifestyle habits. Age is not a limiting factor for implant consideration.

In general, the ideal candidate for the All-on-4 implant procedure is someone who is missing all of their teeth or is currently wearing dentures. As long as you are in good general health, with the appropriate amount of bone, we can provide treatment.
